Insurance Apply for Landlord Home and Contents Insurance

Obtaining a quote is the first step, whether you're after Landlord Building, Contents and Landlord Extras or Landlord Protection Insurance. There are also a few things you may like to know upfront.

Am I eligible?

You'll need a written rental agreement with tenant/s stating the terms of a lease, rental figure and bond amount for either:

  • A residential investment property leased by tenants, or
  • A holiday home for let for casual rentals.
  • This insurance is only available to existing Westpac customers.

How can I apply?

Building, Contents, Landlord Extras

If your rental property is a house and it's unfurnished you'll probably just need Building cover, which includes light fittings, fixed carpets and window coverings. If the house is furnished, you'll want Contents cover too.  You can also add extra protection to your Building and/or Contents policy with Landlord Extras just in case your tenants stop paying rent or maliciously damage your property.

Landlord Protection insurance

If your rental property is part of a strata, group or community title scheme and it's unfurnished, Landlord Protection is ideal. This separate cover protects your building against malicious acts and theft by tenants as well as loss of rent under a written agreement.

What happens next?

If you apply online, you can pay by credit card or direct debit to setup your cover, and then download a copy of the Product Disclosure Statement and your completed Policy Schedule. We’ll then send you an email confirming that you’re covered.

If you apply over the phone or in person and you're happy with the quote, and meet the policy's eligibility requirements, we’ll proceed with payment, setup the cover and then provide the Product Disclosure Statement and Policy Schedule.

  • The features and benefits contained in the Westpac Home and Contents Insurance Product Disclosure Statement including policy wording (dated 3 October 2009), are available to new customers from 3 October 2009 and first become available to existing Home and Contents Insurance customers upon the next renewal of their policy on or after 3 October 2009.
  • This insurance product is issued by Westpac General Insurance Limited ABN 99 003 719 319 (WGIL) and distributed by Westpac Banking Corporation ABN 33 007 457 141(the Bank).
