How can I avoid or minimise paying fees?
Here are 10 easy ways to make sure you don’t pay fees unnecessarily:
- Make sure you have the right Westpac account for your needs
- Stay within your fee-free monthly transactions
- Investigate whether you are eligible for a package, which can reduce your fees
- Set up Card AutoPay for your credit card repayments so you don’t miss payments
- Set up other direct debit and automatic payments to avoid late fees and interest charges
- Access your money online, via Online Banking
- Use only Westpac, St.George and BankSA branded ATMs
- Check your account balance regularly to make sure you have funds available for any direct debits or periodical payments otherwise you may overdraw your account and incur fees
- Set a reminder in your diary, PC, or phone for the day before a scheduled payment is due so you can check that you have cleared funds available for the payment
- Remember it takes several days for a cheque to clear before the funds are available.
