Mastercard® Gift Card (No longer available for sale)

Looking to apply for a new Mastercard® Gift Card?

Our Mastercard® Gift Card is no longer available for general sale.

If you currently have a Mastercard® Gift Card, you can continue using your Gift Card up to the maximum loaded amount until the expiry date.

What is a Mastercard® Gift Card?

The Gift Card is a prepaid card that carries the Mastercard® logo like any Mastercard® credit or debit card, but because it has a prepaid value, spending is limited to the amount of money placed on the card at the time of purchase.

Where can I use my Gift Card?

The Gift Card can be used at millions of locations in Australia or overseas where Mastercard® is accepted for electronic purchases. It is valid for the maximum amount on the Gift Card up until the expiry date.

You can use your Gift Card:

  • At more than one merchant
  • To make online purchases
  • To make purchases in Australia or overseas.

Where can’t I use my Gift Card?

You cannot use your Gift Card:

  • At an ATM
  • To withdraw cash
  • For recurring payments, direct debits or instalments
  • At gambling merchants
  • At automated petrol pumps
  • To make a purchase beyond the card balance.

You cannot use your Gift Card at those merchants displaying the Mastercard® logo who have chosen not to accept Mastercard® or Visa gift cards.

Does my Gift Card have an expiry date?

Yes. You will have a minimum of 36 months to use the balance on the card. The expiry date is indicated on the front of the card. Any remaining balances left on the card after the expiry date will be forfeited, so we encourage customers to use the entire gift amount before the card expires.

Can my Gift Card ever have a negative balance?

Any transaction that is greater than the available balance will be declined.

Can I add value to my Gift Card?

No. The card cannot be reloaded. Once the balance is used, the card becomes invalid.

How do I pay by Gift Card at the EFTPOS terminal?

After swiping your card, you press the 'credit' button when making a purchase, then sign the receipt. This will process your purchase as a Mastercard® transaction. You will then be asked to sign to authorise the purchase as with a normal credit purchase.

How do I find out the balance on my Gift Card?

Statements are not issued for Westpac Mastercard® Gift Cards. You can check your balance by calling 1800 204 965 (or +61 2 8254 0596 when overseas).

Will my name be embossed on my Gift Card?

No. The Gift Card is an 'anonymous' card with 'Gift Card Holder' appearing in the customer line instead of your name.

Will I receive a PIN with my Gift Card?

No. There is no PIN provided with the Gift Card. All transactions are made at EFTPOS terminals by pressing the 'credit' button and signing for the purchase.

What happens if I need to return an item purchased with my Gift Card?

Merchandise return and refund policies vary by merchant. If a credit is issued to you, it may not be added to the available funds for up to 2-5 business days depending on the merchant processing and the country in which the transaction was made. Customers should check their balance regularly to determine if their card has been credited for the return of goods.

What happens if my Gift Card is damaged?

If a Card is damaged, you can request a replacement card. A replacement card will be sent to you within 10 days and the remaining funds will be transferred across to a new card.

Please ensure you bring the damaged card with you.

What happens if my Gift Card is lost or stolen?

The Gift Card is like cash and if lost or stolen it may not be replaced. Call the Gift Card Call Centre immediately with your card details to cancel your current card and we may transfer any remaining card value onto a replacement card. Please read the Liability section of the Mastercard Gift Card Conditions of Use for details of when you will be liable for unauthorised transactions using your card.

Why is my Gift Card flat printed with the words 'Electronic Access Only'?

The card is a flat printed card which means that the personalised information on the card is not raised but thermally printed onto the card. As a result the card cannot be used at merchants that use manual credit card imprint devices and can only be used for electronic purchases.

The 'Electronic Access Only' appearing on the card is a Mastercard® requirement for flat printed cards that can only be used for electronic purchases. An authorisation is obtained with every purchase.
