How do I transfer money into my Westpac bank account?
You'll need to arrange a telegraphic transfer via your local bank or a foreign exchange dealer. Whatever option you choose, you'll need to provide the following information:- Your bank's name - in this case Westpac
- Your bank's SWIFT Code - in this case Westpac's Swift Code is WPACAU2S (Australia does not use IBAN numbers). The SWIFT code enables money to be received by Westpac.
- Your BSB number - this is a 6 digit number that precedes your account number. It refers to the Westpac bank branch holding your bank account. You will have been given this number with your bank account number. An example of a Westpac BSB and account number is 732065 111111. In this example the BSB is 732065 and the account number is 111111.
- Your Westpac Bank account number - the BSB and account number ensure the transferred money reaches the right account.
Telegraphic transfers can either be in foreign currency or Australian dollars (AUD). Please note: The amount you transfer will be deposited to your account as AUD. It normally takes up to 5 working days for the money to reach your account.
How much does it cost to transfer money into my Westpac bank account?
There are 2 separate fees. The first fee is charged by the bank sending the money. The second fee is charged by Westpac for receiving the money. The fee for sending the money is determined by the bank you use to send the money - so please contact them to find out their fees. Westpac, as the receiving bank, charges a flat fee of $10 AUD, per transaction, for receiving money.
Can family or friends, living in Australia, deposit money into my Westpac bank account?
Yes, certainly. They just need to know:- Your bank - in this case Westpac
- The name your bank account is held in (eg. John F Smith)
- Your Westpac bank account number
- Your BSB number - this is a 6 digit number that precedes your account number. It refers to the Westpac bank branch holding your bank account. You will have been given this number with your bank account number. An example of a Westpac BSB and account number is 732065 111111. In this example the BSB is 732065 and the account number is 111111.
How can I check that the money I've transferred to my Westpac bank account has landed in my Westpac bank account?
