On 1 March 2007, Westpac announced its partnership with Landcare Australia to establish CarbonSMART. Landcare CarbonSMART is an innovative, not-for-profit carbon trading pool and brokering service for Australia.
The initiative takes advantage of emerging carbon trading opportunities to provide income to NSW landholders.
It enables NSW landholders to earn an income from land not currently used to grow crops or graze livestock.
CarbonSMART gives landowners the opportunity to secure a regular income for up to 30 years just by maintaining and growing the vegetation on their land.
"Westpac's support of Landcare CarbonSMART allows us to add value to our existing agribusiness products and assist our customers with opportunities to diversify their income," said Graham Jennings, General Manager Regional and Agribusiness Banking.
