2007 marked a very special year in the history of surf life saving - 100 years since the first volunteer patrol started to watch over our nation's largest playground - the beach.
To commemorate this significant milestone, the Federal Government designated 2007 as the Year of the Surf Lifesaver.
Whilst the humble volunteer surf lifesaver remains, the cost to run an integrated lifesaving service to the public has dramatically increased. Westpac was proud to be the official fundraising partner for Year of the Surf Lifesaver, SLSA's largest ever fundraising appeal.
