Report scams and fraudsters

Transferring money, paying bills and managing your banking or super online has enormous advantages, not least the convenience and time savings provided by 24/7 access.

However, online banking also brings an increasing level of responsibility for you to take action in fraud prevention. We urge you to maintain up-to-date virus protection software and to be alert to the wide range of hoax emails and other scams deliberately targeting online users and take the necessary action to report them.

What are scams?

Scams come in many forms – mail, email, telephone, over the Internet and door-to-door. They're designed to trick you into giving away your money, passwords and/or personal details.

Some of the scams listed on the SCAMwatch industry website include:
  • Mobile phone scams
  • Job and employment scams
  • Investment scams
  • Lottery and competition scams
  • Banking and online scams.

How do I report a Westpac-related scam?

Reporting scams is easy. Just email us with details of your suspicions or forward hoax emails to spoof@westpac.com.au (Paste this email address into the To field of your email program)

Reporting scams is really important because it means we can quickly investigate the information you've sent and then use it to minimise the chances of more people being deceived by the same scam. We consider the information you send extremely important, so much so, that we monitor the spoof@westpac.com.au email address 24/7.

Unfortunately we are unable to respond to your email but we thank you in advance for providing this invaluable information.

How do I report a scam that's not related to Westpac?

Report your non Westpac related scams to SCAMwatch, an independent website run by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC).

The aim of SCAMwatch, is to provide information to consumers and small business about how to recognise, avoid and report scams. Anything reported to SCAMwatch will be analysed and acted on by the ACCC.
