Westpac commits AU$40,000 (PNG K100,000) to the Cyclone Guba Disaster Relief Appeal
Westpac today announced it would donate AUD$40,000 (PNG K100,000) to The Salvation Army's Cyclone Guba Disaster Relief Appeal.
Westpac's County Head of Papua New Guinea, Ross Hammond, said the donation would provide urgently needed funds for relief efforts in Papua New Guinea's Oro province where more than 160 people were killed in heaving flooding caused by the cyclone.
"No one is prepared for a natural disaster. Our thoughts are with everybody affected by the floods, many of whom are Westpac customers and our employees who have relatives in the province," Mr Hammond said.
"Westpac's donation will help The Salvation Army provide much-needed supplies to the area including food, shelter, fresh water, medicine, mosquito nets and clothing. The supplies will be distributed by The Salvation Army team operating in Oro province."
Westpac Bank PNG is the oldest established bank in the country commencing operations in 1910 as the Bank of New South Wales. Westpac offers a full range of retail and commercial banking services through 15 service centres in PNG.
