Dividends

Does Westpac pay dividends on ordinary shares?
Westpac has historically paid dividends on its ordinary shares twice a year. Payment of dividends is subject to Board approval and the details of the amount of any dividend are announced with the interim and full year results. You can refer to Westpac's dividend payment history for information on prior dividends.

When will I receive the next dividend?
The ex-dividend date, record date and dividend payment date are noted on the Financial Calendar for shareholders page.

What is the dividend record date?
The dividend record date is the date on which an individual must own shares in order to be eligible to receive a declared dividend.

What is the ex-dividend date?
The ex-dividend date is a specific date after which buyers are no longer entitled to receive the last declared dividend. This is known as going 'ex-dividend' and before this date the shares are said to be 'cum-dividend'. If you buy and hold shares before the ex-dividend date, you are entitled to the recently declared dividend. If you buy your shares on or after that date, you will not be entitled to the dividend.

How is the dividend paid?
You can choose to receive your Westpac ordinary share dividends by cheque or by direct credit. Alternatively, you can reinvest the proceeds in Westpac ordinary shares (see information on Westpac's Dividend Reinvestment Plan below).

Payment by direct credit is more secure and faster than cheque payments. Direct credit can be made to any Westpac account or to any other bank in Australia, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom, or to any building society or credit union in Australia.

To elect to receive your dividend by direct credit, or to change your direct credit details, contact the share registrar, Link Market Services.

Does Westpac have a Dividend Reinvestment Program (DRP)?
Westpac currently operates a Dividend Reinvestment Program, offering ordinary shareholders the ability to have dividends on some or all of their shares automatically reinvested in Westpac ordinary shares.

Who should I contact if I have not received my dividend cheque?
The share registrar, Link Market Services, can confirm payment details and, where appropriate, issue another cheque. Contact the share registrar about electing to receive dividends by direct credit to avoid this problem in the future.

Is it possible to receive my dividend in an alternative currency?
Ordinary shareholders may have their dividends paid in Australian dollars, New Zealand dollars or pounds sterling. Contact the share registrar, Link Market Services, for more information.
