Environmental governance

Our Environmental Management System (EMS) is based on ISO14001. It was implemented in 2002 and reviewed in 2005/06.

The Board Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Committee oversees management's role in ensuring our environmental commitment is promoted and maintained across the Group in a responsible and sustainable manner.

The Chief Executive Officer has overall responsibility for the Group's environmental policies and performance.

Our Environmental Co-Coordinator manages environmental policy development and ensures that the implementation of its objectives and reporting responsibilities are consistent Group-wide.

In recent years, the internal Environmental Advisory Group has been central to the management of operational issues. This has included incorporating environmental consideration into the lending process for customers across the group, as well as the implementation of sector-leading energy management and emissions reduction programs.
