Political donations, lobbying and public policy consultation

We report public policy positions on an ad hoc basis, most usually in the form of public submissions. A specific objective for 2007 is to review our disclosure of public policy positions and participation in public policy development and lobbying.

Westpac also currently chairs the Australian Bankers' Association, which publicly reports its consolidated policy positions.

We believe that we have a responsibility to support the democratic process and ensure that governments are well informed of our activities. We are therefore committed to ensuring that any political donations we make are: made solely for the purpose of supporting the democratic process itself; lawful, properly recorded in our accounts, and adequately disclosed in accordance with relevant electoral laws; and not made where there can be any misrepresentation of their purpose.

Political donations are reported in the Directors' Report within the Concise Annual Report and to the Australian Electoral Commission.
