A strong commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues continues to unlock real value for Westpac through lowering risks, delivering greater efficiency, enhancing reputation and contributing to innovative product offerings.

Corporate responsibility and sustainability underpins and facilitates the core business strategy with a view on driving value over the long term; an overall management approach we describe as 'managing deep, managing broad and managing long':

  • Managing broad - taking account of interests of stakeholders beyond shareholders because this fundamentally impacts our business in terms of risk, resilience and revenue upside;
  • Managing long - avoiding the pitfalls of short-termism and resisting market demands to maximise near-term value at the expense of future value; and
  • Leading through strong values - ensuring we operate in a responsible and ethical way consistent with accepted community and business norms.
This section aims to bring together detailed and specific information for analysts, rating agencies, and sustainability specialists. Read more about our engagement protocols for sustainability ratings.

Extended Performance Reporting at Westpac

In terms of reporting, financial accounting cannot fully capture and describe the total value within our business. It follows that we need to complement the financials with performance reporting on critical dimensions.

Our goal is to translate our progress and value enhancement into terms the market can most readily understand and move beyond narrow financials to report on all critical performance dimensions.

Our year-end Extended Performance Announcement provides a snapshot of leading performance indicators. It is designed to be read in conjunction with the financial performance indicators within the year end Profit Announcement.

Our Stakeholder Impact Reports fully sets out how we are managing these leading performance indicators across the human, customer, social and environmental capital and supply chain management dimensions. These sit alongside the Concise Annual Report and Annual Financial Report in more fully reporting our performance.
