Westpac Museum

The Westpac Museum at 6-8 Playfair Street, The Rocks is open 9am - 12 noon and 1pm - 4pm weekdays except Public Holidays. Entry is free.

Our current exhibition is:

The Convict's Bank, The People's Bank and Australia's Bank

Take a step back in time to a world where convicts and money struggles were ever apparent, and Australia's first bank – The Bank of New South Wales – was establishing itself. Listen to the stories of the first employees and learn how long it took for the bank to employ women.

Discover what a banking chamber of the 1900s looked like, and test yourself with the banking trivia challenge. Explore the many changes our currency went through and marvel at the dress typically worn by upper-class women of the time.

Find yourself transported back to the 1950s as our SpectraVision, along with its two pint sized characters emerges and takes you on a journey to experience the great technological, financial and social changes which have occurred from the 1956 Melbourne Olympics to the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.
