Our proud history

Westpac Banking Corporation has a long and proud history as Australia's first and oldest bank. It was established in 1817 as the bank of New South Wales and in 1982 changed its name to Westpac.

Why not visit the Westpac Museum, at 6-8 Playfair Street, The Rocks, NSW which is open to the public (school groups by appointment please) from 9am - 5pm every day except Public Holidays. Admission is free.
