Our expert Legal team provides our business units with legal advice on financial products and services, developments in the regulatory environment and industry issues. The team is made up of a series of specialist practice groups that work closely with the business and who partner with external legal firms when the need arises.
There are more than 100 people in the team. They come from a variety of backgrounds and specialisations but they're all working together for the same client. It's a solid team effort that challenges both their legal and business intellect.
They're working with the business, not just on it. And they all have the same goal in mind, to add value to our business, our customers and our stakeholders.

![]() | Poon Fletcher Counsel, Banking Products Group Group Secretary & General Counsel "This is very much a service industry. As counsel, that means looking beyond the legal issues to employ greater business acumen. There is a lot of variety in the role, but with a strong emphasis on specialist knowledge, across a wide range of businesses. There has to be a solid understanding of your business units and empathy for what they are trying to achieve. It's critical to stay informed and up to date with legislation; to know and understand what changes are happening that are going to affect the business both commercially and legally. It's much more of a hands-on partnership approach." |

"Every day is different. There's rarely a day that goes to plan. There are always strict deadlines that need to be met. That requires a lot of research and communication to pull all the details of a project together, and then initiative and commitment on everyone's part to deliver it on time. We're all working together to keep the business running smoothly."
