Group Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) operates across the spectrum of the strategy value chain to focus the organisation on strategic objectives and long term aspirations.
Group Strategy is involved in the origination of strategy and M&A executes transactions to fill strategic gaps.
Group Strategy supports the Board, Executive Team, and business units in developing Westpac's corporate and business unit strategy and communicates it across the organisation. We manage the annual Board Strategy Review process and provide support and assistance to prioritise and align initiatives and investment decisions, identify and assess opportunities, and resolve critical strategic and business issues.

![]() | Mike Debelak Group Strategy "Group Strategy is responsible for managing the strategic planning process across the Westpac group. While the business units are the custodians of the ideas that can drive this business forward, our role is to work with them to identify the value of those ideas and then to help them determine the approaches and the processes necessary to turn these ideas into reality. We work with the business units to solidify these ideas and support them to deliver on the outcome that will drive value for the bank and for our customers. In addition, we work with the Executive Office to ensure that the individual business unit strategies are aligned to an overall group strategy. Westpac currently holds a number of strong capabilities across our various business units. In order to leverage these capabilities, we are currently looking at what we can do between business units to deliver more for the customer. We envisage that promoting cross business unit collaboration represents a significant source of competitive advantage." |
