Group Treasury

Group Treasury is about pushing the boundaries of balance sheet management to maximise shareholder value. It plays the pivotal role of 'banker to the bank'.

Our strategy is to manage the balance sheet by providing superior returns. We do this by the positioning in our chosen markets, optimising net interest income, minimising cost of funds within liquidity guidelines and maximising shareholder value through effective capital management, as well as providing financial engineering solutions to Westpac.

Our key functions include asset and liability management and global funding.

Curt Zuber
Group Treasurer, Westpac Banking Corporation

"This is a culture of commitment. My department is more vibrant and more proactive than most other financial institutions. We're willing to be more creative in our approach and that requires challenging ourselves and each other to come up with the best solutions. We have a highly specialised work force, but we endeavour to bring in a good mix of generalised skills that can grow into the specialised areas. It's pure on the job experience. You get out of it what you put in."
