Business Banking

Business Banking (or Middle Markets) is one of several business units that make up our retail bank's sales and service area. It has six key areas of specialist knowledge to support our customers' needs and provide financial solutions.

Our customers are typically medium to large sized businesses with 20 to 99 people working for them and between $10 to $100 million turnover. We have a number of specialist portfolios managing customers dealing with property investment, schools, accountancy and other specialist industries, and provide a number of specific products to match their needs.

Our team consists of eleven centres nationally with teams of relationship managers supported by customer managers. Currently, we have 6,000 relationship-managed customers who themselves have access to a wider network of business contacts.

Senior Relationship Manager
Middle Markets

"I'm in a position to influence and have input into my customers' business strategies, particularly on any major projects and acquisitions that they're embarking on. I'm always looking to balance what the credit area will approve and what the customer wants. Credibility comes from knowing and understanding the business risks for both the bank and the customer and being able to structure a deal that meets the needs of both parties. There's never a dull moment. It's knowledge building, what you learn working with one customer, you pass on to another."

"My main focus is working with not-for-profit organisations as well as charities and community programs. Our goal is to educate these businesses as to how they can do things better and to help them grow. It's an on-going challenge to balance the economical with the emotional, but today, charities are going through a transition and they are becoming more business-focused. We get to see a lot of the good that these organisations are doing, such things as medical innovations and community initiatives, and it's nice that I can contribute in some way. Our philosophy is that we're more than a business partner, we're a partner in the community. It's personally rewarding to be a part of it and to know that Westpac has been committed to working with non-profit organisations and actively supporting this sector for more than 40 years."
