We support a diverse mix of people by encouraging:
Age balance
We're working to offer flexible conditions and remove the cultural barriers that prevent people from diverse age groups from working and thriving at Westpac.
In recognition of our policies and practices in this area, Westpac was commended as a mature age employment champion by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
Second language skills
Our workforce reflects the diverse ethnicity of the Australian population. More than 50% of our workforce comes from a different ethnic or cultural background and almost 30% are fluent in a language other than English.
Where possible, we offer a multi-lingual service to our customers so we can talk to them in their language.
People with disability
We want to create an environment in which customers with disability have equal access to our products and services, and that people with disability can thrive at Westpac.
We use Disability Works Australia to recruit people with disability and to make sure all our people have access to the support and services they need.
We've also introduced talking ATMs, telephone banking facilities and wheelchair accessible premises that make it easier for our customers to bank with us.

Indigenous Australians
Westpac has joined Australia's business leaders, the Australian government and indigenous leaders to work towards improving the employment prospects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
We are currently working with the indigenous people of Cape York, helping them develop solutions for greater financial self-sufficiency. This remote location is home to 12,000 indigenous Australians, some of the most disadvantaged people in this country.
We help them create economic independence and establish small businesses in their local areas. To support this program, Westpac people from across the country volunteer to live and work in isolated Aboriginal communities, usually for about four weeks at a time.
