Switch your bank accounts

Our five simple steps below will help you generate letters for the companies you have regular payments with and for your employer. So you can make the switch even easier.

What information will I need to switch?

  • Your Westpac account details
  • Details of the regular payments you make (eg phone bills, gym memberships)
  • Details of the regular payments you receive (eg share dividends, salary credits)
  • Your old bank account details

How long will it take to switch?

The process should take 10 to 15 minutes. Make sure you have all the information you need to complete the form as you can't save what you enter and return later.

How do I switch?

1. Open an account with us

Choose the Westpac bank account that suits your needs and apply online, call 132 032 or visit your nearest branch.

2. Set up any regular payments

Identify the regular direct debits and direct credits set up on your old account. Use our online form to generate letters which you can sign and send to notify the providers of these services of your new account details.

For contact details of your service providers, either look on your bills or search the White Pages.

3. Update your salary details

Notify your employer of your new BSB and account number so they can transfer your salary to your new account. (Your BSB is made up of the first six digits, and your account number is the following six digits.)

Use our online form to generate letters to your employer.

4. Redirect any periodical payments

Cancel any periodical payments set up on your old account and set them up on your new Westpac account.

To set up a new periodical payment, call 132 032 or use Internet Banking.

5. Close your old account

Allow time for your regular payments, salary deposit and periodical payments to transfer over to your new Westpac account before contacting your previous financial institution to close your old account.
