Apply now for a Westpac Bank AccountLocate your nearest branch

 

Apply for a transaction or savings account
Choose the method most convenient for you:

  • Apply online (this should take 5-10 minutes)
  • Call us on 132 032 to apply over the phone
  • Visit your nearest branch to apply in person
Switch from your existing Westpac accounts to other Westpac accounts
If you wish to switch from your existing Westpac accounts to another Westpac account, please call Telephone Banking on 132 032 or visit your nearest branch. Switching to and from a Max-i Direct account is not permitted.
    To apply online:
    • You must be an Australian resident or visit Australia within 30 days to complete the Commonwealth Government identification requirements
    • Accounts must be for personal use only
    • You can have up to five people applying for any one account or package (except student packages which allow only one person to apply)
    • Funds in the account must not be held in trust. To open a trust account, visit your nearest branch
    • Select the branch where you would like your account to be held (a branch locator is provided within the online application)
    • You must provide a valid email address
    • Some account types have additional eligibility criteria and requirements
    For security reasons, incomplete applications cannot be saved. If you pause for more than 60 minutes, you will lose your information and your application will be cancelled.

    What happens after you submit your online application form?

    1.We will send you an email confirming that your request has been received.
    2.Within approximately 48 hours you will receive a second email confirming that your account has been opened. At this stage you will be able to make deposits into your account.
    3.You will receive documentation in the mail to sign and return to the bank within 14 days. Customers who open a Max-i Direct account in a single name will not be required to sign and return the documentation to the bank.
    4.Remember when opening a new account it is important to inform your service providers of changes to your account details. Read about the simple process of changing your everyday bank accounts to Westpac and how to make sure you notify the right people.
