Overseas payments

Have you ever needed to send money overseas to friends or a family member, or needed money sent to you from an overseas account? Below we list your options so you can choose what suits you best.

Sending money overseas – from Australia

Online – if you are registered for Internet Banking you can make a payment to an overseas account from the convenience of your home or office. Please note not all currencies can be selected to transfer overseas. All you have to do is sign in to Internet Banking, select Overseas from the list of options and follow the simple steps.

This option allows you to send money overseas 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you are not an Internet Banking customer, register now. It's free.

Branch – if you prefer, you can purchase an Overseas Telegraphic Transfer (usually known as OTT) from any of our branches. These too can be made in any currency.

Sending money to Australia – from overseas
If you're travelling or living abroad and need to send money back to Australia you can do so at most banks. You will need the following:

  • Bank account details of the beneficiary, including bank name and branch, account name and number
  • Westpac's SWIFT identification, which is WPACAU2S (this ensures the payment arrives with minimum delay)
Payments can be sent in any currency shown in our foreign exchange centre, in addition to Australian dollars.

The overseas bank you use to send funds to Australia will charge you a fee. This can vary depending on the bank and country. In addition to this fee, we charge $10.00 if your payment is to a Westpac account (as at 1 May, 2007).

Receiving money from overseas

If you are expecting money from overseas, we recommend you have the funds transferred electronically, direct to your Westpac bank account. You can arrange this by providing your bank account details to the sender.

With Internet Banking you can pay your BPAY bills at any time.

Visit our foreign exchange centre for the latest exchange rates.
