Accessing your accounts overseas
ATMs are a convenient way to access accounts, but not all countries have the same ATM system. To avoid any problems, make sure:
- You have a four digit PIN
- Your desired accounts are linked correctly to your cards
- You are aware that 'debit' on most foreign ATMs is equivalent to 'savings' in Australia

You can access your savings/cheque account using MasterCard/Cirrus ATMs:
Using the MasterCard/Cirrus network
ATMs displaying the Cirrus logo overseas can be accessed using your Debit MasterCard®, Handycard or MasterCard credit card to withdraw foreign currency.
In Europe
- Accessing savings or transaction accounts – use your Debit MasterCard, Handycard only (MasterCards or Visa credit cards linked to these accounts won't work)
- Accessing credit card accounts – use your MasterCard or Visa cards
|
Outside Europe
- Accessing savings or transaction accounts – use your Debit MasterCard, Handycard or linked MasterCard credit card
- Accessing credit card accounts – use your MasterCard or Visa cards
|

This applies to ATM and EFTPOS transactions, during one 24 hour period (starting midnight). The limit can be adjusted to a maximum of $2000 at any Westpac branch or through Telephone Banking on 132 032.
