Latest fraud prevention tips

Fraudsters have found a new scam to target our hospitalilty (accomodation) merchants. The scam works in the following manner
  • The merchant receives an eMail from a prospective customer wanting to make a booking with card details provided
  • The booking is subsequently cancelled and the 'cardholder' requests that the refund is made to another account - usually via a Money Transfer solution
Invariably, the initial transaction is fraudulent and is charged back by the cardholder. As the merchant has already remitted the funds, they have to accept the chargeback as a loss.

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCIDSS)

If you are a merchant who has access to, or stores credit card details, in any format, or if you use a service provider who does, it is your responsibility to ensure that your customers' payment details remain secure.
