Westpac Foundation
Origins of the Foundation
The Westpac Foundation, originally known as The Buckland Fund, was established in 1879 with £1000 by Thomas Buckland. The fund aimed to help the families of deceased bank officers who found themselves in difficult financial circumstances.
Over the years the bank has also contributed to the fund and in July 1999 it expanded into a modern charitable trust to benefit individuals and families associated with the bank and the wider community.
The name of the fund changed to Westpac Foundation, which reflected its historical link with the bank and the role it played in the community.
Each year income from the Westpac Foundation is distributed to non-profit organisations for specific projects; and to help retired Westpac staff suffering financial hardship.
