Responsible Investment

Our responsible investment practices are led by our wealth management business, BT Financial Group (BTFG) which is a signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment. These principles commit institutional investors to incorporate Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) considerations into investment analysis, decision making and ownership priorities. More information can be found on the BTFG website under Corporate sustainability.

BT Investment Management (BTIM) is a separately listed company on the ASX, of which Westpac is majority owner. BTIM's responsible investment activity comprises screening; proxy voting; collaborative initiatives around climate change; direct engagement with companies in which it invests on material ESG risks; engagement on behalf of beneficial owners; and increasingly, systematic assessment of these companies' ESG performance.

BTIM's equities analysts and portfolio managers engage with investee companies on material ESG issues as part of usual dialogue. Regnan, jointly owned by BTIM along with 7 other asset managers and superannuation funds, works on behalf of asset managers and superannuation funds to identify material ESG risks, and engages constructively with investee companies to bring about appropriate behavioural change.
