Disaster relief
The impact of disasters such as bush fires, tsunamis and cyclones can be devastating for communities and businesses.
During times of crisis, we support impacted customers with personalised assistance, disaster relief packages, and in extreme events through donations, community grants and mentoring support.
Disaster response in 2011
During 2011, we were quick to respond to disasters in Queensland, Victoria and New Zealand providing financial and on the ground support for customers.
In additon to the traditional disaster relief packages and financial contributions, over $516,000 was donated by employees for Queensland and Victoria, and over $40,000 for Christchurch employees, and these amounts were matched and doubled by the Group.
An upfront contribution of $500,000 was made to the Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal (including $250,000 donated by St.George bank), and $500,000 was set aside to provide support to local communities in the form of a small grants program. The Group also extended its Organisational Mentoring program to provide business mentors to support impacted customers to re-establish their operations.
