Sustainability strategy
Emerging issues
Our focus is to anticipate and shape the most pressing emerging societal issues where we have the skills and experience to make a meaningful difference.
Our three initial focus areas:
1. Demographic and cultural change
- Challenge: National unprecendented skill shortages, an issue for our own business and customers, as well as its broader impact on productivity and economic growth
- Our response: To share our experience as an employer to increase participation outside our employment footprint.
2. Environmental challenges
- Challenge: Systemic disruptions from environmental change, emerging scarcity of natural resources and the continuing response to climate change
- Our response: Innovative business solutions to help customers prosper in the face of these disruptions.
3. Helping our customers, communities and people to prosper and grow
- Challenge: To adjust traditional paths of wealth creation because long established assumptions for wealth creation have changed
- Our response: To be the first bank to help customers achieve a sustainable financial future and to advocate ‘sustainable wealth creation’ beyond.
These issues will be systematically addressed in our strategic planning to build a comprehensive and coherent program across the Group.
Our aim is that as these issues mature, they should become part of our standard business practices just as we incorporate new emerging issues into our priorities.
