Banking now truly mobile for business

4 March 2010

Paying bills, transferring cash to your friends and family, even paying staff and fixing up GST are all possible anywhere anytime with the latest update of Westpac Mobile Banking released over the weekend.

“In a first for a major bank in Australia customers using a business banking profile can pay bills like GST and run payroll from their iPhone in addition to viewing balances,” said Westpac’s General Manager ATM and Online Banking, Harry Wendt.

Westpac has been at the forefront of innovation, being the first bank to introduce ATMs in Australia 20 years ago and earlier this year refreshed the website to make it easier to use.

“We understand from our customers that he number one thing they want is the ability to customers transfer funds and pay bills on-the-go. Both are now easy to do on an iPhone using Westpac’s upgraded Mobile Banking service.

“While Internet Banking revolutionised the way people and business owners manage their money at a time that suits them. Westpac Mobile Banking means that customers with an iPhone or iPod Touch can do those essential tasks anywhere they have a signal.

“Small business, in particular, are already time poor, so this will be very useful for those customers who aren’t in front of a computer and often use their mobile as an essential business device.”

“More than 100,000 Westpac customers already bank using their iPhone and most of them log in once a week to check balances and transfer funds between their accounts. We anticipate this to increase substantially now that customers can do more in Mobile Banking,” Harry concluded.

Westpac plans to continue to update the functionality of Mobile Banking this year and broaden the range of supported devices.

Westpac’s Mobile Banking iPhone app is the highest rating banking application in Australia with a current rating of three and a half stars.
