Westpac provides assistance to victims of Pacific tsunami and Asian earthquakes

2 October 2009

All Westpac branches across Australia are now accepting donations for those affected by the Pacific tsunami and Asian earthquakes.

Customers can donate to Oxfam's Asia Pacific Appeal 2009 at Westpac branches or online through www.westpac.com.au or www.oxfam.org.au

Westpac Group Executive, Retail and Business Banking, Peter Hanlon, said funds donated to the appeal will go towards providing food, water, sanitation and shelter to those affected by the disasters.

"Our thoughts are with everybody affected by the tragedy," Mr Hanlon said.

"In addition to assisting with donations, Westpac has donated $50,000 to the Samoa Red Cross Society to help relief efforts. We're also encouraging affected local customers to contact us to see how we can provide assistance to them during this difficult period."

Westpac has provided banking services in Samoa for more than 30 years and employs 80 people locally.

All Westpac branches in Samoa are open for business today and Westpac's ATM and EFTPOS network is fully operational.
